The brief was to produce an Etruscan/Pompeiian stencilled scheme on a polished plaster background and decorate the ceiling to match.
A new fibrous ceiling was installed and painted out in a flat base colour ready for decoration. Colours were mixed in either flat oils or glazes and applied to the various fibrous elements to produce the desired scheme
A polished plaster finish was applied to the wall areas above dado height with an aged wax over the top, the areas were then marked out to form the panels and borders, base colours applied in readiness for the application of the stencils and line work.
The patterns for the stencils were drawn up and cut using Mylar card, all stencils were applied to the various areas using traditional techniques with all of the thin lines applied by hand using lining fitches.
All areas were prepared and painted up to an oil based eggshell finish and then an antiquing paint effect was applied to give a worn look to the woodwork to tie in with the ceiling and wall scheme.
