Water Gilding

Gilding gives solid materials a thin coating of gold or metal by applying fine leaf or powder. Water gilding is a labour intensive process that we use for furniture and smaller ornaments.

Water gilding is a traditional method for achieving a polished surface. It involves applying several coats of gesso and bole to create a suitable base. This allows us to burnish the gold using agate sticks.
